Dr. Winfield Bevins
Dr. Winfield Bevins is an internationally recognized author, artist, pastor, and theologian working at the intersection of faith, art, and the church. He is the founding director of Creo Arts a movement of beauty, goodness, and truth. He is also Artist-in-Residence at Asbury Theological Seminary, where he previously directed the church planting program and helped train leaders in more than twenty nations.
He is the author of several books, including How Beauty Will Save the World: Reclaiming the Power of the Arts for Christian Life, Liturgical Mission, Ever Ancient Ever New; and Marks of a Movement, which has been translated into several languages. His work has been featured in publications such as Christianity Today, Publishers Weekly, Outreach Magazine, and Religious News Service. His artwork has been exhibited nationwide and is held in private collections, with notable commissions including the All Saints Prayer Chapel in Los Angeles and the Stations of the Cross in Atlanta.
He lives in Kentucky with his wife, Kay, and their three daughters, where he maintains a working studio and gallery.
ARTIST STATEMENT
As a visual artist, Winfield Bevins describes his work as “modern iconography,” reimagining ancient sacred imagery through vibrant contemporary color and form. His paintings invite viewers to encounter enduring truths in fresh and meaningful ways. He believes that each generation needs new visual expressions of timeless truths—expressions that remain rooted in tradition while speaking to contemporary audiences. Drawing inspiration from the rich heritage of Christian art, he creates works that bridge past and present, renewing and deepening faith for today. Through his art, he seeks to create spaces for contemplation, prayer, and wonder, inviting viewers to slow down and encounter God, who is “ever ancient, ever new.”

Rooted in the conviction that beauty is essential to the life of the Church, Creo Arts brings artists, churches, and communities together to renew the Christian imagination through the arts. Through creative gatherings, artist grants, and meaningful partnerships, Creo equips and encourages artists to create work that embodies the goodness, beauty, and truth of the Christian story. Winfield envisions a Church that once again embraces the arts as a vital expression of faith, inviting people to encounter God through creativity, beauty, and wonder.
Creo Arts has been partnering with Belmont University’s Creative Arts Collective for Christian Life & Faith since 2023 to give grants to artists, churches, and organizations furthering the Christian story through the arts.
